Search Tips

We've redesigned the search function to give you lightening-speed results. More targeted searching options and faster search returns.

Quick Search

Know exactly what you're looking for? The search box will help you locate it quickly and easily. Keep in mind, simpler is better. The keyword search will match every word in your query, so try to make your keywords as direct as possible.

Tip 1 - Use quotation marks
You can also use quotation marks to find specific results. If you search for "Human Body " only results with the words in that specific order will be returned.

Example 1: "Human Body" - 24 results. e.g. all the products with "Human Body" in title with the words in that specific order.
Example 2: Human Body - 303 results. e.g all the products with either 'human' or 'body' or both somewhere in the product title.

Tip 2 - Enter the product code
Know the product code of the product your searching for? simple enter it in the search box and you will be directed directly to the product's information page.
Note: some product codes may return more that one result

Example 1
: 6SBAND3 - 1 result. e.g. If your search only returns 1 result, you will be immediately directed to the product information page for that product.
Example 2: SBAND - 8 results. e.g. This product code is also forms part of other product's codes. For this example its also appears in the product codes of products in the same series and for two different formats (DVD & VHS). If you expand out the results you will be able to see the product codes of each of the results.

Advanced Search

Looking for more refined results? This powerful tool makes it easy to find exactly what you want. You can select one or all of the options.

Search For
Similar to Quick Search you can use quotation marks to return products with those words in that specific order within product titles and/or synopsis, if you have selected "Keyword within title" and/or "Keyword within synopsis" in the Search Type options. Similarly, if you select Search Type "Product Code" you can search for product codes like Quick Search does.

In advanced search you can also some other special operator symbols in the search box:

  • A leading plus + sign indicates that this word must be present in each result that is returned.

  • A leading minus - sign indicates that this word must not be present in any of the rows that are returned.

  • A greaten than > operator increases a word's contribution to the relevance value that is assigned to a result.

  • A less than < operator decreases a word's contribution to the relevance value that is assigned to a result.

  • Brackets ( ) will group words into a subexpression

  • An asterix * acts as a wildcard operator. Unlike the other operator symbols an * must be placed immediately after the word rather than before it.

Search Type
Simply select where you would like to search for the keywords entered in the box above. The advanced search defaults to searching on titles only, but you can easily select that you wish to search within product synopsis or product code.

Search Parameters
In this section you can change:

  • The number of results displayed per page (default: 12)

  • Whether you want to show "Expanded Result Summaries". e.g. Displays: Title, Synopsis, Format, Copyright Year, Product Code, Duration and Price (if logged in), rather than just Title and part of the Synopsis.

  • How to order the results: e.g. By relevance OR by title alphabetically.

Search Format
If your only looking for a product in a particular format(s) simply select the option(s) you're looking for:
e.g. DVD, VHS, CDROM, MUSIC CD or OTHER.

Tip: Leave this section alone if you want to search for all formats.

Advanced Options
If your just looking for products with online previews (short video clips), or titles released in the last 1,3,6,9 or 12 months, or titles with study guides (PDF's) use these option.

Please note using these advanced options will in most cases drastically reduce the results returned.

More Examples:

The following examples demonstrate some search strings that use the search operators:

  • 'apple banana'

Find results that contain at least one of the two words.

  • '+apple +juice'

Find results that contain both words.

  • '+apple macintosh'

Find results that contain the word “apple”, but rank results higher if they also contain “macintosh”.

  • '+apple -macintosh'

Find results that contain the word “apple” but not “macintosh”.

  • '+apple ~macintosh'

Find results that contain the word “apple”, but if the results also contains the word “macintosh”, rate it lower than if results does not. This is “softer” than a search for '+apple -macintosh', for which the presence of “macintosh” causes the results not to be returned at all.

  • '+apple +(>turnover <strudel)'

Find results that contain the words “apple” and “turnover”, or “apple” and “strudel” (in any order), but rank “apple turnover” higher than “apple strudel”.

  • 'apple*'

Find results that contain words such as “apple”, “apples”, “applesauce”, or “applet”.

  • '"some words"'

Find results that contain the exact phrase “some words” (for example, results that contain “some words of wisdom” but not “some noise words”). Note that the ‘"’ characters that enclose the phrase are operator characters that delimit the phrase. They are not the quotes that enclose the search string itself.
