Title Gascoigne Country 1917 To 1999
Synopsis An inspirational story about the life and work of the renowned visual artist, Rosalie Gascoigne, who died in 1999. It's a story of a woman who came to art late in life, after all the business of kids and family, but scaled the heights of both national and international recognition. Stuck in the wilderness of Canberra's Mt Stromlo's pine forests, when Rosalie did turn to art her approach was direct - straight to the objects in her immediate environment - road signs, drink crates, corrugated iron and kitchen ware all became the 'stuff' of her art. At the centre of the program is a revealing interview with Gascoigne, recorded not long before her death. Others, including husband Ben, son Martin and revered art historian and author, Daniel Thomas provide valuable insights into the life of this great Australian. (ABC TV)
