Title Corporate Collapse (Compass)
Synopsis Following the recent collapse of several large Australian corporations, Compass explores the human effect of sudden job loss in the lives of ordinary workers. What do people go through when their jobs disappear? Rightly or wrongly, our work plays a pivotal role in our lives. It has become central to defining who we are, and what we are worth. At the end of 2001, just after Ansett Airlines ceased operating, Compass followed a group of the airline's workers from all levels of the company over a five week period: a pilot, a flight attendant, a union official, a customer services officer, and a cleaner. We see the effects of this extreme situation on them, and their families. The people we meet are not cases of extreme hardship. They are ordinary people and we join them just after their company, and their lives, suddenly collapsed. (ABC TV)
